I have provided a palette of colors to be used. Just press Shift + C to screen capture this palette.
1.Open new image, size 600x750. We will resize later.
2. New raster layer. Name it center.
3. Choose the selection tool, elipse. Now draw out an oblong shape similar to the one below,then flood fill it with color #1.
4. Use the deformation tool and rotate the shape around to a position similar to what you see in the image below.
5. New raster layer and name it "petals1".
6. Choose the selection tool, and set on freehand selections. No feather.
7. Draw out a shape like this, then flood fill it with color #2.
8. Now draw several more shapes as in the image below and flood fill the same way.
9. Dip your color picker into #3 and activate "petals one" layer.
10. Use your paint brush to paint in some color on the petals like this.

11. Dip the color picker in color #4. Then use the paint brush again and paint in color like this.
Reduce the brush size to 15, and change the rotation to 80.
12. Use the magic wand and select the petals. Invert the selection.

Now smudge one color into the other, one stroke at a time. Use small short strokes.
16. New raster layer and name it "petals 2".
17. Once again choose the freehand selection tool and draw some shapes between the existing petals. Flood fill each one with color #2.
18. Use magic wand once again to select the petals. Then apply paint as before. Using color #3 and then color #5. Use the smudge tool as we did earlier.
19. Move the center layer on top of the "petals2" layer.
20. New layer, and name it "petals 3".
21. Draw in a few more petals to sort of fill some of the empty spaces. Also draw a few to curl in on top of the center of the flower. Flood fill the same way as we did before.
22. Leave this layer on top of the center layer.
23. Activate the "center" and then add new layer. Name the layer "shadow".
24. Set your air brush at
Use color #1 and spray around the outer edge of the center creating a shadowy effect, and some depth.
25. Activate the center layer. Set foreground color to #2 an background color to #6. Use magic wand to activate the center.
Now apply the color one click at a time, alternating between colors #2 and @6. Don't overdo it.
Reduce the brush size to 25, and give a click or two with black in the very center.
27. Merge the layers. Now create new layer and name it "stem".
Move this layer beneath the sunflower.
28. Use the freehand selection tool and draw a stem similar to the one below, then flood fill it with #7.
29. change color to #8 and paint a swatch of this in the center part of the stem. Use the smudge tool to blend a little.
30. New raster layer, and name it "leaf one". Use the free hand selection tool and draw out a shape like this. Flood fill it with #7.
31. New raster layer and name it "leaf 2". Once again draw out a leaf shape similar to the one below, and then flood fill with #7.
32. Hide the sunflower layer, and merge visible layers. Make the sunflower visible again. Activate the leaf layer.
33. Use magic wand to activate the leaves. Now use the paint brush set at
34.Paint some veins on the leaves similar to the ones below.
For more depth, spray #1 at each end of the leaves and on the stem at the top. then smudge very gently.
35. Add a new layer and drag it beneath the sunflower. Flood fill it with white. Click on the sunflower then go to edit..... copy and paste as new layer. Now we have two sunflowers! You can do 3 or more. However many you like. I have chosen to do four of them.
36. Use your deformation tool to resize or reshape the second sunflower. Hold down the shift key then push in the top left node to get a perspective look.
We are finished with the flowers, and I will leave the background up to you!

Here are a few of the things that were done for the background.
1.The flower layers were resized by 80%.
2. I added a checkerboard background wich is available in version 8 patterns.
I copied and pasted the sunflowers once more and reduced the opacity to 20, moved it to the left to make a shadow effect.
Some custom brushes from version 8 were applied, such as the Van Gogh using complimentary colors to the image.
Next I just added some text!
Remember each time you do this tutorial, the sunflower will look a little different. Also your flowers will not look like an assembly line image, it will be your own original!
