Painting A Glass Vase
A Paint Shop Pro Tutorial

Here is your color palette for the vase. Right click and save as picture, then open in PSP.

1. Open new image size 500x500 and flood fill it with white.


2 Add new VECTOR layer.


3. Set foreground color to black and lock background color.


4. Go to pre set shapes and choose the octagon.

5. Use the pen tool to node edit. Right click on all nodes EXCEPT THE TWO BOTTOM ONES.

Then click node edit, symetric.


6. Pull the next to the bottom nodes in a little.

7.Pull top two nodes up.

8. Click on the top left node,and pull the arrow end slightly up and to the left.


9. Click on the top right node, and pull the arrow end slightly down and to the right.

10. Use magic wand and select the vase. Invert the selection.


11. Add new RASTER layer.


12. Choose the flood fill tool, and reduce opacity to 15.


13. Flood fill the vase with color no.1.


14. Set paint brush to

  • size 30
  • hardness 0
  • step 10
  • density 100
  • opacity 75
  • CHECK the wet paint box

15. Set brush variance to

  • Repeating fade in, jitter 4

16. Set foreground color to no.2 and background color to no.3

17. Paint in some shadows as illustrated in the image below.

18. Change foreground color to no.4.


19. Paint as shown below.

20.Change foreground color to no.5 and background color to no.6 and paint as shown below.

21.Change foreground color to no.7. and background color to no.8. and paint as shown below.

22.Change foreground color to no.9 and background color to no. 10. Paint some more.

23.Change foreground color to 11 and background color to no. 12. Paint in the rest of the color.

24. Use the smudge tool and set it to

  • shape - round
  • size - 45
  • step - 10
  • density - 100
  • opacity - 55

This is a strong brush so move it over small areas and NOT in a continuous move.

>center>Now blend the colors together. Do not overwork! Try to move your brush in the direction of the curve of the vase. It makes all the difference in your finished product.

25.Now set the foreground and background color to white.


26. Change paint brush setting size to 10, and the opacity to 100.


27. Paint in these highlights.

28.Use the smudge tool and very gently soften the white.

29. Add new RASTER layer.


30. Change forground color to no.3 and background color to no.12.


31. reduce brush size to 3. UNCHECK wet paint.


32. Paint on water rim using both colors.

33. Lets paint in some flower stems. Change foreground color to no.13. and background color to no.14.


34. Set paint brush shape to


35. Paint the stems below the water line.

35. Increase opacity to 90 and paint stems to lip of vase.

36.Go to the file, image and then canvas size. Increase the canvas to 500 wide and 700 height.


37. Click on layer one and flood fill it with white. Now activate the top layer.


38. Add new raster layer.


39. Increase the opacity to 100 and uncheck the wet paint box. Continue painting the stems above the vase.

40. Go to the layer palette and delete the vector layer.


41. Hide the background layer, and then merge visible. Click the background layer back on and resize your image.


Decorate the background layer as you like now, and when you are finished then merge all your layers.


42. All you have to do now is add some pretty flowers to the flower stems!!
