Tutorial written March 29, 2005.

Wings are next.

Move your Spacer layer above your Hoof layer.

36. Set your background color to white.
Preset Shapes tool same as we've been using....

36a. Draw out a vertical oval just behind the head of your pig...

Screenshots below are enlarged to show detail.

37. Click on the Pen Tool. First, I want you to add a new node (change the type to Cusp)
at the bottom of your oval, then pull that node and the other node so the bottom is
squared off...

38a. Move your left center node up a little like I did in the above screenshot.

38b. Pull the bottom node handle inward to form an arch in the wing...

38c. Now pull the top node over and pull the right center node up and out
(moving the entire nodes, not the handles) ...

38d. Place 3 new nodes below the center right node, change them to Cusp...

38e. Starting with the first node you added. Pull that node in, use the handles on each side to
make a dip...

38f. Do the same thing with the other two nodes...

That's the top part of your wing. Rename this layer to wing1.

Go to File, Save!

Make your Spacer layer your active layer. We're not moving it this time because we want
the next part of our wing to below the part we just finished.

39. Preset Shapes Tool, same settings.

39a. Draw out a long horizontal oval at the top right of your first wing section...

39b. Click on the Pen Tool. I used the existing nodes. First, I moved the left end node so that
it would intersect with the line of my first part of the wing. I used the top middle node's left
handle to form a slight arch. I pulled the right end node up to make the tip of my feather...

That's it for the first feather. Rename this layer to feather 1.

40. Hold the CTRL key on your keyboard and press the C key. This copied your wing to the
clipboard. Now make your Spacer layer your active layer.

40a. Hold the CTRL key again and press the L key. This adds your feather as a new layer
underneath the first feather. Move it into position so that the first feather overlaps this
feather and is slightly shorter than feather1. Rename to feather 2.

40b. Make your Spacer layer your active layer. Hold the CTRL key and press L. Move this
wing into position so that the 2nd feather overlaps it and is slightly shorter.
Rename to feather 3.

40c. Maker your Spacer layer your active layer. Hold the CTRL key and press L, move into
position allowing feather 3 to overlap and be slightly shorter than it is.

This is what you should have now.
Screenshot shown with cutout so that you can see the feather placement...

Go to File, Save!

That's it for our wing. Once we merge and add our cutouts we will copy the wing and use as the
second wing.

We are almost through with our vectors. Making the halo is next.

41. Switch your white background color so that it becomes your foreground color.
Make your Spacer layer your active layer.

41a. Preset Shapes Tool to these settings...

41b. Above your pig's head, draw out a small oval. Use the rotation arrows to rotate your
oval downward...

Rename this layer to Halo.

Go to File, Save!

Make your Spacer layer your active layer. You can either delete this layer by going to Layers,
Delete or clicking the delete button on your layers palette.....
OR you can drag this layer down so that it will be in between your back and front back
leg layer. To pull a layer down, in the Layer Palette click and hold on the layer you wish to move,
you'll see a hand, pull down on it until you see where you want to "drop" the layer, then let go.

For this tut I'm going to assume you deleted your Spacer layer.

Next is the Star.
42. Make your front back leg your active layer. Add a new Raster layer.

42a. Preset Shapes Tool to these settings...

Note.. Line width doesn't matter we won't be using it.

42b. Set your background color to whatever color you'd like your star to be.
I'm using #D7E1B7

42c. Draw out a large Star between your pig's front feet...

Rename this layer to Star.

That's it, you're all through vectoring!

Delete your Spacer layer!

Go to File, Save!

I like saving a copy of my vector layers so that if later on I want to use my image
differently I can edit my nodes again.

43. Go to Window, Duplicate. This makes a copy of your original image. Now close your
original.

We will merge visible all of our vector layers on this copy.

44. Make your top layer your active layer (should be wing1 layer). Right click and
choose, Convert to Raster...

Do this on all your vector layers.

45. Now go to File, Save As. Name your pig something different than you named
the other one, save as a .pspimage

Let's add some cutouts to our layers.

46. Make active your body layer.
Go to Selections, Select All, Selections Float. (CTRL key +A then CTRL Key + F)

46a. Go to Effects, 3D Effect, Cutout with these settings...
Cutout Color #95544B

Selections, Select None. (CTRL + D)

47. Apply the above cutout to your two leg layers and your two ear layers.

Go to File, Save!

48. Make active your Tail layer. Apply the same cutout above except lower the
blur to 8.

This is what you should have so far...

49. Make your snout your active layer.
Go to Selections, Select All, Selections Float. (CTRL key +A then CTRL Key + F)

49a. Apply the same cutout as the tail settings. Deselect. (CTRL + D)

50. Make the star your active layer. Apply a cutout using these settings...
Shadow color #5C672F

51. Make your halo your active layer.
Selections, Select All, Selections, Float (CTRL key +A then CTRL Key + F)

51a. Got to Effects, 3D Effects, Inner Bevel and apply these settings...

Deselect CTRL + D

Go to File, Save!

52. Make wing 1 your active layer.
Go to Selections, Select All, Selections, Float (CTRL key +A then CTRL Key + F)

52a. Apply a cutout using these settings...
Shadow color #F6A886

Deselect (CTRL + D)

53. Make feather1 your active layer.
Go to Selections, Select All, Selections, Float (CTRL key +A then CTRL Key + F)

53a. Apply the same cutout above except lower the Opacity to 50 and the Blur to 23.
Deselect (CTRL + D)

54. Select each feather layer and apply the same cutout above to them.

This is what you should have now....

Almost finished!!

Go to File, Save!

55. Go to Layers, View, None. This hides all your layers. Look on your Layer Palette, click
the eyes beside your wing layers so that only those 5 layers will be visible.

56. Go to Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Rename this layer wing1.

57. Got to Layers, View, View All.

58. CTRL + C.

59. Make your very bottom layer your active layer (should be Raster 1).

60. CTRL + L

You should now have a second wing. Move it into position behind wing1...

61. Click on the eye beside Raster 1 layer. Now click on one of the other layers to
make it your active layer, it doesn't matter which. Go to Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.

62. CTRL + C

63. CTRL + V. This made a new image of your angel pig without all the excess blank area.
You can now tube your pig if you want by going to File, Export, Picture Tube.

Take a deep sigh of relief, you're finished!!
I hope you've enjoyed this tut and have become more comfortable with vectors!

Until next time, God Bless!
Connie
