Let's g
et started. Good luck.....

This tutorial is done in PSP 9.
1. Open one of the black & white images from the ZIP (total of 3).
You can also use a photo of your own. Do this:
Crop your photo to 300 X 300.
Image > Grayscale.
Image > Expand colors > 16 Million colors.

2. Look close to your photo and pick a part you want to colorize.
I picked photo two and decided to do the tree.

3. Take your lasso tool and put it to feather 2 > Anti-alias checked.

4. With your lasso select the contour of the tree.

5. If you work with PSP 8, 9 or 10 put the selection settings to "Add".
If you use PSP 7 you will need to keep the
Shift-key
down while selecting more parts.

6. Now select the smaller parts of the branches and leafs.
Look at the screenshot below.

7. Adjust > Hue and saturation > Colorize.
I used 245-50 but you can use a lot of values (see below).

Apply

8. Selections > None.

9. Image > Add borders > 5 Pixels > Symmetric > Color yellow.

10. With your magic wand select (feather 0 - tolerance 15) the yellow border.
Notice.... feather settings needs to be set to zero.

11. Open the MD-Pattern.jpg.
Shift-D to duplicate. Do this twice.
Close the original and put one copy aside to use later.

12. Adjust > Hue and saturation > Colorize.
Use the same color you used for your photo.

13. Foreground to pattern.
Look for the colorized copy of MD-Pattern.jpg.
Texture unchecked (=bleu hand).

14. Fill your 5 pixel selection with the pattern.

15. Effects > 3D-effects > Inner bevel > Color white.

16. Effects > 3D-effects > Drop shadow > Black.

17. Repeat the drop shadow but this time Vert. and Horiz. at - 2.

18. Now open the second copy of MD-Pattern.jpg you set aside.

19. Effects > Artistic effects > Neon glow.

20. Background to pattern.
Look for the grey copy of MD-Pattern.jpg.
Texture unchecked (=bleu hand).

21. Image > Add borders > 10 Pixels > Symmetric > Color yellow.

22. With your magic wand select the yellow border.
If you use PSP 8, 9 or 10, change the selection settings back to replace.

23. Fill the selection with your right mouse button: the grey pattern.

24. Don't you think the grey is still to light?
Adjust > Brightness & Contrast.

Apply.

25. Image > Add borders > 5 Pixels > Symmetric > Color yellow.

26. With your magic wand select the yellow border.

27. Fill this selection with the foreground pattern: the colorized pattern.

28. Repeat the inner bevel and the drop shadow like before.

29. Selections > None.
Copy the image.

30. Open the pattern you colorized.

31. Effects > Artistic effects > Neon glow.

32. Now put your foreground to the darker pattern.

33. Open a new image 400 X 400 > Transparent.
Fill with the darker colored pattern.

If all went well you still have the image
you prepared on your PC's memory.

34. Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

If you did well you must have this now:

35. You must have two layers and the top one is selected (=bleu).

36. With your rectangle selection tool select the middle frame.
So........... the photo and the first 5 pixels border.
Remember......... feather to 0.

37. Selections > Invert.

38. Effects > Reflection-effects > Rotating Mirror.

39. Apply and copy the selection.
Selections > None.

40. Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

41. Image > Mirror.
Image > Flip.

42. Move this piece up to the left corner (see screen).

43. If your corner is placed right, move this layer one position
down in your Layer Pallet so it is beneath the colorized photo.

If all went well you must have this:

44. Layers > Merge > Merge all flatten.

45. Selections > Select all.
Selections > Modify > Contract with 5 pixels.
Selections > Invert.

46. Layers > New raster layer.

47. Fill the selection with your right mouse button (dark grey).
Adjust > Brightness/Contrast, settings like before.

48. Repeat the inner bevel and the drop shadow at 2 and - 2 like before.

49. Layers > Merge > Merge all flatten.

50. Open the MD-Extreme.psp and copy.

51. Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

52. Move left of your frame
as on the screenshot below.

53. Repeat the drop shadow like before but only at - 2.
Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen.

54. Open the MD-Extreme2.psp and copy.

55. Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

56. Move to the right of your frame
as on the screenshot below.

57. Repeat the drop shadow like before but only at - 2.
Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen.

58. Open the MD-Extreme3.psp and copy.

59. Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

60. Move to the bottom right as on the screenshot below.

61. Repeat the drop shadow like before but only at - 2.
Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen.

62. Open the MD-Extreme4.psp and copy.

63. Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

64. Move to the top left as on the screenshot below.

65. Repeat the drop shadow like before but only at - 2.
Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen.

66. Layers > Merge > Merge all flatten.
