Since you are still with me, I must say I
admire your intestinal fortitude. Anyway the hard part is done
and the fun begins.

The Shading |
|
Body
Active Layer = 'body". Right
Click/Convert to Raster Layer. Selections/Select All/Float Effects/3D Effects/Cutout with following
settings.
Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 60
Blur = 20
Shadow Color = #000000
Selections/Select None
Leg1
Active Layer =
"leg1". Right Click/Convert to Raster
Layer Selections/Select
All/Float Effects/3D Effects/Cutout
with following settings.
Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 60
Blur = 10
Shadow Color = #000000
Selections/Select None
Activate the Eraser tool with these
settings.
Very carefully erase the shading line where it crosses
the body. At the point (circled in red) where "Shading" from
the body layer shows thru the erasure on the leg...STOP. We'll
fix this a little differently
With the "leg1" layer active and the "body" layer
right below...Right click/Merge/Merge
Down.
Activate the Smudge tool
(settings below) and carefully blend the troubling
spot.
Active Layer = "body" Foreground Color = #F5A3C4 Background Color = Null Selections/Select All/Float New Raster Layer...name it "tummy
shading". Activate the Airbrush Tool
(settings below)
Lightly spray a small amount of pink where the tummy
should be. Adjust/Blur/Gaussian
Blur...Radius = 6 Selections/Select
None With the "tummy shading" layer
active...the body layer just below... Right Click/Merge/Merge
Down.
Leg2
Make "leg2" your
Active Layer. Right Click/Convert to
Raster Layer Selections/Select
All/Float Effects/3D Effects/Cutout
with following settings.
Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 60
Blur = 10
Shadow Color = #000000
Selections/Select None
Front Leg
Make "front
leg" your Active Layer. Right
Click/Convert to Raster Layer Selections/Select All/Float Effects/3D Effects/Cutout with following
settings.
Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 60
Blur = 10
Shadow Color = #000000
Selections/Select None
Activate the Eraser tool with these
settings.
Again, very carefully erase the shading line where it
crosses the body, but we need only to worry about the part
that is visible just under the chin.
Wing
Make "wing" your
Active Layer. Right Click/Convert to
Raster Layer Selections/Select
All/Float Effects/3D Effects/Cutout
with following settings.
Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 60
Blur = 10
Shadow Color = #000000
Selections/Select None
With "wing" still your Active Layer. Add a New Raster Layer...name it
"details". Foreground Color = #A2A2A6 Background Color = Null Pen
Tool Mode = Draw Point to Point
(Bezier Curves) Connect Segments = Not
Checked Create On Vector = Not
Checked Show Nodes =
Checked Line Style =
Solid Line Width = 3 Anti-Alias = Checked
Draw
Three curved lines to define the scallops on the lower edge of
the wing. Remember to click and drag the starting node, then
click and drag the ending node. Deselect the lines by clicking
on any other tool.
Adjust/Blur/Gaussian
Blur/Radius = 1.5 Make sure that
"details" is still active and that the "wing" layer is
directly beneath. Right
Click/Merge/Merge Down
Hooves
Active Layer =
"hoof" Right Click/Convert to Raster
Layer. Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel
(setting below)
The "hoof" layer is still the Active Layer. Right
Click and Duplicate. Move the "copy of hoof to just below the
"hoof" layer. You may have to use the deform tool to get the
parts to line up properly.
Again make "hoof" your Active Layer with "copy of
hoof" directly below. Right Click/Merge/Merge
Down. Right Click/Rename the layer
"hooves1". Active Layer =
"hooves1" Right
Click/Duplicate. Active Layer = "copy
of hooves1" Click and drag this layer
down till it rests directly over "leg2" Use the Deform Tool to make any adjustments that are
necessary. Rename this layer
"hooves2.
Active Layer =
"hooves1" Again Right Click and
Duplicate Move this "copy of Hooves1
to directly above the "front leg" layer. Position and resize, if necessary by using the deform
tool.
Okay, that completes the
body shading. We'll move on to the head.

Shading the Head |

Active Layer = "head". Right Click/Convert to Raster Layer Selections/Select All/Float Effects/3D Effects/Cutout with following
settings.
Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 60
Blur = 10
Shadow Color = #000000
Foreground Color = #F5A3C4 Airbrush Tool...same settings as before except change
size to 25. With the "head" selection
ants still marching, spray a couple of pink spots for
cheeks. Adjust/Blur/Gaussian
Blur/Radius = 4. Selections/Select
None
Inner
Ears
Active Layer = "left
inner ear". Right Click/Convert to
Raster Layer Selections/Select
All/Float Effects/3D Effects/Cutout
with following settings.
Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 100
Blur = 15
Shadow Color = #EB3989
With
the "inner ear" still selected...Create a new Raster Layer.
Name it "shading". Foreground Color =
#000000 Airbrush Tool...same settings
as before except make the brush about a size 4.
Zoom in and lightly spray a narrow
line along the upper edge and in the inner corner as seen
below.
Adjust/Blur/Gaussian Blur/Radius = 3 Selections/Select None.
Active Layer= "shading" with "left inner ear" directly
below. Right Click/Merge/Merge
Down.
Active Layer = "right inner
ear". Right Click/Convert to Raster
Layer Repeat the same actions used on
the "left inner ear".
Nostrils
Active Layer
= "left nostril" Right Click/Convert
to Raster Layer.
Active Layer =
"right nostril" Right Click/Convert to
Raster Layer.
Lashes
Active Layer =
"left lashes" Right Click/Convert to
Raster Layer.
Using the Smudge
settings below, pull 8 or 9 curved lines from the heavy black
line we created earlier.
Don't worry about them all being the same length...you
can always bob them a bit with the eraser
tool.
Lower the Opacity to about 80% to soften them just a
little.
Active Layer = "right
lashes" Right Click/Convert to Raster
Layer. Repeat the same procedure used
on the left eye.
Halo
Active Layer =
"halo" Right Click/Convert to Raster
Layer. Select/Select
All/Float Effects/Texture
Effects/Sculpture/ Preset =
"gold"...with the exception of changing the Intensity to 60
and the Elevation to 50. Selection/Select None Those of
you who have the SuperBlade or SuperBladePro Plug-in...feel
free to use it.
At the last minute
I added a "flare" tube to the halo to give it a little
pizzazz. I don't remember where the tube came from so I can't
offer it here.
Mouth
Active Layer =
"mouth". Right Click and Convert to
Raster Layer.
Active Layer =
"head". Create a new raster
layer...name it "pacifier". Picture
Tube Tool Pacifier tube set to about
60% of scale. Use the Raster Deform
Tool to tilt and position the pacifier.
Adjust/Hue and Saturation/Colorize
(Optional) I used Hue = 241 and
Saturation = 153 which resulted in the Pink you
see.
Effects/3D Effects/Drop
Shadow Vertical =
1 Horizontal =
1 Opacity =
50 Blur =
5 Shadow Color =
#000000
Hair
Mercy Me...it has come to my attention that Version 9
of PSP did not include the needed "Brush" and "preset" files
for this part of the tutorial. They originally shipped in
Version 8.
The Paint Shop
Pro 8 Resource Pack can be downloaded by going
here.
Active Layer = "left inner
ear". Create an New Raster
Layer...name it "hair". Paint Brush
Tool Paint Brush Preset = Hair - tight
curls
Foreground Color = #C0C0C0 Background Color = #FFFFFF Using a circular motion paint a curly patch right on
top of our little angel's head. Add a bow if
desired.
Moon
Active Layer =
"moon". Right Click/Convert to Raster
Layer Selections/Select
All/Float Effects/3D Effects/Cutout
with following settings.
Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 60
Blur = 35
Shadow Color = #000000
Selections/Defloat Selections/Modify/Expand...Expand by 7 Foreground Color = #FFFE83 Airbrush tool Same settings as
before except Brush size = 50.
New
Raster Layer...name it "moonglow" Spray the expanded Selection paying particular note to
the outer edges.
Selection/Select None. Adjust/Blur/Gaussian Blur/Radius = 12 Move the "moonglow" layer Down till it rests just
above the "Raster1" layer.
Background
Active
Layer = "Raster1 Effects/Plugins/Glitterato (Optional) Glitterato preset = "blueheaven" Actually, I want you to feel free to use any sort of
background you see fit...even if it be just a sold color or
maybe a gradient. Thank You for doing my tutorial, I hope
you've enjoyed it.
Here is our
final result.
Note...I hereby declare that NO cows were harmed in
the making of this tutorial. After all, all "babies" are born
angels.
